22 lr question
Will 22lr sub-sonic cycle thru a Ruger 10/22?
I am concerned if shooting it will jam and require surgery on the rifle to extract shell caseing. Thanks E-A |

Re: 22 lr question
What is sub-sonic .22 ammo?
What is it good for? |
Re: 22 lr question
I would assume it was good for shooting tree rats in town where they frown on using regular 22lr. My neighbor uses his 22 once in a while and it makes quite a noise. I am suprised that some of the other neighbors have not reported him. My wife says, "Whats that?", and I say "I don't know." Another thieving tree rat has bit the dust.

Re: 22 lr question
BW3-
And the LR size specs allow it to cycle through a variety of actions, I imagine. A pellet rifle pumped up to the max makes a fairly loud sound too. I deleted my question, here's why.... beemans.net dtnwn |
Re: 22 lr question
Without using a suppressor it still makes a hell of sound...... remember that it only avoids the sonic sound wave of the bullet but not the the firing of the rifle itself.
By the way a well build suppressor does not need any subsonic ammo, the best made sound suppressor can be made for the AR-7...... but of course this info is only from what I have read, it is illegal to make them :y: oh yeah? |
Re: 22 lr question
Looking into them for critters and such.
Nothing nefarious. E-A |
Re: 22 lr question

Re: 22 lr question
This thread reminds me that I
never got around to having a scope mounted on my Ruger .22 semi auto pistol. Anyone had this done lately? If so give us some details, and how you like it. dtnwn PS- It's a Mark I, that I bought maybe 25 years ago. |
Re: 22 lr question
I do well with Super Colibri in semi auto .22's. The trick is to find a CB or Colibri load that clears the muzzle but doesn't short cycle and cause a stovepipe. At that point your .22 autoloader is just a straight pull bolt action.

Re: 22 lr question
Only have a scope on my 30-06 for long shots....... everything else all it takes is practice, practice, practice....... besides the more stuff that you have on your rifle, car, house and so on then the more stuff that can break down.

Re: 22 lr question
Well, Ponce Cuba, I'm getting geezerish,
my eyes ain't what they used to be. Need the glass to see the small game and crosshairs at the same time. dtnwn |
Re: 22 lr question
I've hand cycled some CCI "CB" rounds n my Rugers before .... about as loud as an air rifle.
22 shorts are louder than CBs. . |
Re: 22 lr question
Sub sonic means the round travels less than the speed of sound (1200fps.)
so there is no sonic crack. With a sound suppressor on the end of the barrel all you would hear upon firing is a Whoosh sound and the sound of the action cycling. |
Re: 22 lr question
Walter? that's why I say that the AR-7 makes the best weapon for a sound suppressor sinse the suppressor goes all the way along the barrell, you can drill scape holes on half of the barrell toward the rear and the gas that scaped there will make the bullet sub-sonic.
It takes time to experiment to have it just right, to make it sub-sonic and yet have the power. |
Re: 22 lr question
Walt ,I think it is 980fps is the sonic boom point.

Re: 22 lr question
Speaking of 22s .... I got to check out Ruger's 22 Mag autoloader ...... mean little booger.
Me likes it. . |
